With the total Federal Prison inmate population approaching 200,000, I would have to say it is time for ALL American citizens to start taking a look at how we deal with NON-VIOLENT crime. Our prisons are not full of killers, bank robbers, rapist and child molesters-NO, they are full of low level drug offenders. At the cost of $40,000 per inmate per year, we are wasting millions and millions of dollars every year - Instead of coming up with solutions to correct this "failed drug war", they build more prisons to warehouse victims of it's failures.

ALL RIGHT FOLKS, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
26+ YEARS and counting
WRITE THE WHITE HOUSE,
WRITE THE ATTORNEY GENERAL,
PLEASE !!
AND ASK THEM,
WHY CAGE THIS MAN ANY LONGER??
We received word Christmas week that George Martorano's "Commutation of Sentence" petition was DENIED. Actually it was denied on November 24th, but, for some reason they waited till George's birthday (Dec. 21st) to deliver the "UNJUST" news. George has served more than enough time for the non-violent drug offenses he plead guilty to. It is stated on the denial letter that "they do not have to disclose the reasons". Are you kidding me?? While it is also stated on the denial letter, that this decision is NOT APPEALABLE, It does not say that we can't ask the WHITE HOUSE to reconcider. PLEASE, email the White House today and VOICE YOUR SUPPORT FOR GEORGE'S RELEASE. George is possibly THE LONGEST SERVING NON-VIOLENT 1ST TIME OFFENDER IN THE WORLD-What good does it do anyone to keep this man caged any longer??? SOMEONE answer this question please.
WEBELIEVEGROUP
This is a website designed to bring exposure, hope, and relief to federal inmate GEORGE MARTORANO. George has spent 26+ years of his LIFE NO PAROLE sentence in federal prison for NON-VIOLENT drug crimes. George is ONE of the LONGEST SERVING NON-VIOLENT 1st TIME OFFENDERS in the WORLD to date. George, despite his sentence, has mantained hope that he will someday receive the "SECOND CHANCE" he has earned, and so deserves. While we advocate for George Martorano's freedom, we also speak for the thousands and thousands of others within the walls that have also received harsh unjust sentences. Change is needed. Sentencing has FILLED our prison system beyond capacity. While the crime rate has actually fallin, the incarceration rate keeps soaring-why?? because of Sentencing Check out George's new blog site at... www.freegeorge.us
!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
THEY RE-AIRED THIS SUNDAY 7/27/2008!!!!Anyone see this 60 Minute segment... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/01/03/60minutes/main3672273.shtml
HE IS NO relation to GEORGE MARTORANO, WHO 60MINUTES SHOULD BE INTERVIEWING!!! Anyways, can someone from the JUSTICE DEPARTMENT explain how a CONFESSED KILLER of 20 people is free and talking about it on 60 Minutes while GEORGE MARTORANO spends his 25th year of a LIFE NO PAROLE sentence for his NON-VIOLENT drug offenses??? PLEASE!!!! webelievegroup@msn.com

Before you exit this site thinking it has nothing to do with YOU, think about this, if you are paying federal taxes, a portion of that tax money goes towards the warehousing of over 180,000 federal inmates ($20,000 to $80,000 per year, per inmate)- While we will agree that some criminals do belong there, there are many many others like GEORGE MARTORANO, who are ready to come home and should, but they are stuck in these over CROWDED prisons with draconian sentences, using up those taxdollars. Taxdollars that should be going to education, seniors, healthcare, veterans, ETC ETC ETC-- so think about it, IT DOES AFFECT YOU |

The truth about George Martorano is that Federal Agents posed as his wholesale dealers and orchestrated a sting operation to finally bust him. The life sentence was meant to scare him into informing the Feds about his father, alleged mobster Raymond "LongJohn" Martorano. Unable to tell the Feds anything they already did'nt know, George was put into solitary confinement for four and one half years and was subjected to cruel punishments. They gave him notorious murderers for cellmates. For a crime that others serve a maximum of twenty years for, George got life no parole. Even the man who shot President Regan, and Noriega, one of the most infamous drug traffickers of all time, were granted the possibility of parole. George has written over twenty novels and screenplays that depict life behind bars as well as how he grew up. He teaches Creative Writing and Yoga classes, and even counsels suicidal inmates. If prison is meant to rehabilitate, then George is the prime example and he undoubtedly deserves a modification of sentence. Besides his books, George's only tool left is this web site, and We The People. Help us bring George home by reading his stories, writing President OBAMA, and signing our petition. Every word of encouragement is printed out, mailed to George, and will accompany him on his quest for justice. THANK YOU and enjoy our site!!!
